How an Online Speedometer Measures Your Speed
- 01
Open on Mobile
Visit on your smartphone with GPS enabled and open sky view.
- 02
Tap Start
Grant browser location permission when prompted. Doppler satellite tracking begins immediately.
- 03
Read Live Speed
Monitor real-time velocity, trip distance, top speed, and moving average with zero telemetry.
Satellite Precision
Why GPS Speed Is More Accurate Than Car Dashboards
Car speedometers are legally calibrated to over-report speed. Satellite Doppler calculations reflect your true ground velocity.
Doppler Frequency Shift
GNSS receivers calculate velocity by measuring radio frequency shifts from satellites moving overhead, accurate within 1–2 km/h.
No Wheel Circumference Error
Tire wear, inflation pressure, and aftermarket wheels distort mechanical speedometers, but have zero effect on GPS ground speed.
Night Driving
Heads-Up Display (HUD) Mode
Mirror high-contrast digits onto your car windshield at night.
Tap HUD Mode and place your phone flat on the dashboard beneath the windshield. The inverted numbers reflect off the glass, keeping your eyes on the road.

Tips for Getting the Best GPS Signal
Position your phone near the windshield or window for unobstructed view of the sky.
Keep the browser tab in the foreground so the Screen Wake Lock keeps your display awake.
Avoid deep tunnels or multi-story parking garages where satellite signals cannot penetrate.
Always secure your mobile device in a dedicated vehicle mount while driving.
Units
km/h, mph, Knots & m/s
1 mph = 1.609 km/h · 1 knot = 1.852 km/h · 1 m/s = 3.6 km/h.
| km/h | mph | Knots | m/s |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 km/h | 6.2 mph | 5.4 kn | 2.8 m/s |
| 30 km/h | 19 mph | 16 kn | 8.3 m/s |
| 50 km/h | 31 mph | 27 kn | 14 m/s |
| 80 km/h | 50 mph | 43 kn | 22 m/s |
| 100 km/h | 62 mph | 54 kn | 28 m/s |
| 120 km/h | 75 mph | 65 kn | 33 m/s |
| 300 km/h | 186 mph | 162 kn | 83 m/s |
