How it works

Track Flight Speed from 35,000 Feet

  1. 01

    Window Seat

You must have a window seat; aircraft fuselage aluminum and carbon composite block radio waves.

  2. 02

    Hold Near Glass

Hold your phone directly against the passenger window to acquire orbital GNSS satellites.

  3. 03

    Monitor Flight

Read live ground speed, cruising altitude, and true heading in knots or km/h.

Aviation Science

Ground Speed vs Airspeed

Why your GPS speed differs from the pilot's cockpit airspeed indicators.

Ground Speed (GPS)

Measures physical movement across the earth’s surface. Strong tailwinds increase ground speed, while headwinds reduce it.

Indicated Airspeed (IAS)

Measures dynamic air pressure entering pitot tubes. Thin air at 35,000 ft means true airspeed is much higher than indicated airspeed.
